Trip Highlights

  • Being stranded for 8 hours thanks to a bus driver no-show and thus arriving at destination 14 hours late. If you ever get the chance to travel across Canada by bus during a snowstorm during holiday season, I highly recommend it. If only for the stories. Weather delays, exchanging tickets for a later bus in order to get food, bus driver abandoning you in -30C weather because technically his shift ended, relief bus driver not showing up, being rerouted South instead of West because that’s the only way you’ll actually get to your destination… Fun times, I tell you.
  • Seeing/being with family. My siblings and I are abnormally close; it was nice to try to pull all-nighters again, camwhore, have heart-to-hearts, and experience awkward parent’s friend’s dinners together all over again. My parents, we don’t always get along, but when we do, it’s nice. It’s nice to be reminded that I have family who will always have my back no matter how much I fail/succeed.
  • Catching up with (some) old friends. Sadly, I was only able to take pictures with one group of amazing ladies, but the two other catch-up coffee dates were wonderful. You know how they say friends are your chosen family? I believe that, and I am so very grateful to be blessed to have met such positive, interesting individuals with whom time and distance become erased the second I’m with them again. I’m looking forward to future trips when I get to see more people.
  • Being saved from “drowning.” Admittedly, I was depressed before I came back to BC. I’m having a hard time adjusting here in the big city after the familiarity of my small town; I had lost passion for the things that used to. Being back home reinvigorated me. It’s really not so much that I found the answers I was looking for, but I was reminded that I am not alone.

After a whirlwind 2012, it was nice to be able to take a breather to prepare myself for 2013. While I can’t say I’m yet fully prepared, I’m looking forward to facing each day one day at a time and each challenge as they come.
